HOW DO YOU ATTACH THE SKYNET TO THE ROOF/SURFACE?
On a curbed skylight, you do not need to “attach” the SKYNET. Simply place it over the skylight and curb, and you’re ready to work. The dimensions of the SKYNET in relation to the size of the skylight opening makes it impossible for SKYNET to be pulled through the opening, and the raised edge of the curb prevents the SKYNET from moving or slipping off the skylight.
WHAT IF THE SKYLIGHT OR OPENING DOESN’T HAVE A CURB?
If the skylight does not have a curb, or raised lip, the SKYNET should be attached to the roof or surface using the optional secure-attach brackets. The secure-attach brackets are mounted to the roof or surface using fasteners appropriate for the individual, particular installation. The secure-attach brackets ensure that the SKYNET cannot be moved around the surface either intentionally or accidentally. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure that the substrate is sufficiently strong to support the SKYNET and weight of a falling worker. It is also the responsibility of the installer to ensure that the secure-attach brackets are attached to the substrate with appropriate fasteners.
HOW STRONG IS THE NET?
The netting used in the manufacture of the SKYNET is a military grade net used for cargo shipping and air drops. Breaking strength is rated at 895 lbs. Per strand, of which there are between 80 and 120 strands per SKYNET, depending on the model. (a 6' x 6' SKYNET should have approximately 80 strands, a 6' x 12' SKYNET should have approximately 120 strands) additionally, at each point throughout the net, where the ropes cross, they are tied in a knot for extra strength.
IS THE SKYNET OSHA APPROVED?
OSHA no longer approves items. OSHA regulations and standards are established as the criteria to be met in the design of products. The AES Raptor SKYNET is manufactured to comply with OSHA regulation 1926.502(b)(4)(i) for skylight covers.
WHAT DOES THE SKYNET WEIGH?
The 6' x 6' SKYNET weighs approximately 40 lbs. The 6' x 12' SKYNET weighs approximately 60 lbs.
ARE THERE ANY PARTS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED OR RE-CERTIFIED IF A FALL OCCURS?
In the case of a fall, a competent individual should inspect the SKYNET netting, frame, and fasteners for any damage. If the SKYNET has sustained no damage, it may be repositioned and used again. If the SKYNET netting is frayed, cut, or otherwise damaged, or if the frame has warped or become misaligned, the SKYNET must be replaced. If a fastener has become dislodged, but the rest of the system is undamaged, the fastener may be replaced. However, a properly installed fastener should not be dislodged due to a fall. If a fastener has become dislodged, it is probable that it was not installed properly, and ALL the fasteners should be carefully examined for proper installation.
HOW LONG WILL A SKYNET LAST?
The SKYNET is covered with a UV protective coating to prevent breakdown from constant exposure to sunlight. The nylon is extremely rugged and able to withstand most of the rigors of a construction/roofing environment. U.S. Government standards for replacing fall protection devices is 5 (five) years, whether they have been involved in a fall incident or not. We believe that this is the standard that should be used.
CAN I MAKE MY OWN FRAME AND ONLY USE THE NETTING FROM AES RAPTOR?
No, the AES Raptor SKYNET netting is specifically designed and tested to operate in combination with the SKYNET frame. A self-fabricated frame would not comply with OSHA regulations without proper testing and certification, thus subjecting the workers and owner to potential hazards, litigation, or fines.
CAN I HAVE A CUSTOM SIZE MADE FOR A UNIQUE JOB?
Yes, custom sizes are available.
